Grades K-2

Welcome parents and children to chemical engineering for grades K-2. We hope that this page helps young children learn about chemical engineering on a very basic level.

Engineers deal with a lot of different types of math and science to solve problems. Chemical engineers pay attention to small details of a product to make each product safe, durable, and cheap. Chemical engineers have a hand in almost every industry. For example, chemical engineers make paint, gasoline, clean drinking water to name a few.

My favorite way to describe chemical engineering to kids is through food. Take macaroni and cheese for example: macaroni noodles need to combine with cheese to make mac and cheese.

Everyone has their own special way of making mac and cheese. Chemical engineers figure out how to make the best version of mac and cheese possible. Once they figure out how to make it the best way, they make a lot of it and put it in stores so that everyone can have it. When they make a lot of it at one time, some complications can come up that they deal with with math and science they learned in school.

Everything that you see around you is chemically engineered. Engineers are inventors who like being creative. Stimulate your child's creativity and problem solving skills with the provided demonstrations.
